Barrett Emke, Photographer

A Kansas City native, Barrett Emke is a photographer, writer and photography instructor. Holding a BFA from the University of Kansas, he works primarily on documentary, portraiture and editorial photo work and has made pictures for the likes of The New York Times, Al Jazeera America, Esquire, NPR, VICE, Bloomberg Businessweek, Curbed, Education Week and Dazed & Confused. In early 2014, Emke self-published his first book of photographs, "I Was A Dream Of Myself," and has since pursued documentary projects on subjects running the gamut from the protests in Ferguson to prairie burns in the Flint Hills of Kansas to Missouri's annual gay rodeo. When not making photographs, Emke enjoys a cold beer, David Bowie's Station to Station LP and swimming in the Ozarks during the summertime.
